Company, ankles & more company-oh my!

My girlfriend Patty from Seattle has been visiting us since this past Sunday.  We are supposed to be heading up to St. Augustine for some girl-time shopping and walking through the old city BUT yesterdays highlight of the day may be a factor.

I have been having problems with my right ankle for the past year and I am ultimately going to be needing surgery to correct a problem but I am doing anything and everything to avoid that. Last June I had a shot of cortisone injected into the joint where the uneven bone is and it worked until this past week.  At the time, the doctor told me that I am to come back to his office immediately when the pain starts up so we can do another shot.  Well, you guessed it, the pain has come back big time (last week it started) and I was able to get into see him yesterday.  The doc is an hour away so for our first full day together, we spent it in Winter Park at the Dr.!

Do I know how to show my guests a good time or what?  We did get to go to a Vegan restaurant that Patty had been too (she is a Vegan) for lunch and I have to say, it was very good.  I had about 8-10 blue corn tortilla's with about 1/4 cup of hummus and a mango salsa.  Steve had a bean sprout, hummus & veggie wrap that he said was fine.

Anyway, they numb the ankle to give you the shot and I was fine for the next few hours.  As we were cleaning up from dinner it hit!  Holy Sweet Baby Jesus!  Pain like I have never experienced, 2 labors included, in my ankle.  My ankle swelled up and just felt like it was going to explode!  It got progressively worse and ultimately I could not walk.  I was sitting on the couch with my leg propped up and started to cry becuase I had to pee and I couldn't walk!  Steve helped me get up and almost carried me to the bathroom.  I will have to remind him today to thank me for losing 50+ lbs!

We called the emergency service of the Dr and the Dr called me back and explained that I was having a reaction to the shot.  Really?  No kidding!  He told me to take 3 advils and ice the ankle.  It seemed to work.  I was finally able to get comfortable enough to take an Ambien and go to sleep.  Today my ankle is still very sore but nothing like last night.  I hope that by tomorrow it will all be a bad dream!

So, today is my last day with Patty as she is leaving tomorrow and it doesn't look like we will be doing much today.  We have more friends coming in on Thursday and they will be staying with us until Saturday morning.  And than, guess who's coming to my house for dinner Saturday night?  Stephanie of Dreams of Skinny High Heals and her family I am so excited and cannot wait to see them!

Please say a prayer that my ankle will get better because I have to wear skinny high heals at my daughters wedding in two weeks and that wont happen unless this ankle behaves!

I hope your pain subsides and you get to enjoy the remainder of your visit with Patty. You've sure had your share of upsets over the last year. Better days to come!!

Oh how scary! I hate that you had to go through that. Reactions to anything are horrible - lets just say I'm dealing with enough for both of us - and leave you out of it so that you are fine for your daughter's wedding. Can we say that?

Dangit. I wish we could both just not.

I am glad you were able to get in to see your doctor so quickly and I hope that you don't experience anymore pain and the swelling subsides quickly! I hope you get to be in skinny high heals for your daughter's wedding.

Enjoy your last bit of time with your current guest, your next guest, and your get-together with Stephanie. That's awesome!

Cortisone shots are the worst. I had one in my wrist back before my Carpal tunnel surgery and it was the most painful experience of my life. I hope you feel better soon and I can't wait to see you Saturday!!
