Crap!

I mean it literally too!  I don't care what my great Doctor told me....I experience Dumping Syndrome!!!!  If you recall, I ate a little ice cream and had a horrible experience with sweating and heart pounding like I just ran a marathon followed by nausea, cramping, throwing up and horrible diarrhea.  He told me it was physically impossible to experience Dumping Syndrome with VSG.  I am here to tell him, it is not!

He told me that because I was severely limiting my carb intake, the sudden introduction of sugar is what caused my symptoms.  That may have been true then but since then, my carbs are up to about 40-50 g a day so I do not feel at all like I am severely limiting them.

Fast forward to last night.  The scene:  We are at CityWalk at Universal Studios heading to the Hard Rock Cafe for the Pink Floyd concert.  Its hot.  I see what I think is a mirage in the dessert...TCBY!  Now granted, I have not had TCBY in years, why all of a sudden I felt the need to have it is beyond me but have it I did.  I ordered a small Shiver, vanilla yogurt with peanut butter cups mixed in.  Oh yea, might as well go all the way, right?  I ate about 1/2 of the cup and started to get "that feeling" again!  Let me just say that I missed roughly 90% of the concert, not a terrible thing as I am not a fan, but really?  Spending that much time in a bathroom away from home was not the way I had envisioned the night.

Steve?  Oh, the few times he saw me he'd say "are you ok?" to which I'd answer "no", than my sweet, usually very caring and sympathetic husband would get this "look" on his face that said it all.  You know the look?  the "what did you expect?" look.  I guess I know where I stand when Pink Floyd is involved! Suffice to say, it was a very quiet car ride home!

I am still feeling the effects today in case some one out there cares!

Oh....sounds MISERABLE! Hope you are feeling better today, Jacquie. And a thunk on the head to Steve. LOL.

Thanks for commenting on my blog. I have some 5 pound weights and AM going to start using them every night. Gotta get rid of even a small bit of the batwings!

Now I love you - but what's the rule about talking about poo in the loo? You must first warn a certain person - ME! LOL

You poor girl...please feel better.

There is another VSG gal I follow who has experienced Dumping Syndrome too (and calls it that), so I don't really know if I believe that to be entirely true either.

My mom had VSG and she does experience dumping syndrome and was told by her surgeon that she might...so she knew up front. THat sucks that you were lead to believe that you wouldn't. :( feel better!

Ooh, there is nothing worse than having THAT happen in a public restroom! You certainly have my sympathies. :(

On the other hand, I'm trying to decide between gastric bypass and VSG, and reading experiences like this one help that process. So basically, I'm sorry you had that happen to you, but thank you for sharing it. ;)

I hope you're feeling better.

Dumping syndrome is VERY real for VSG patients! I've read a lot about it.

EEK! I have had similar feelings occasionally after I had my gallbladder removed and once post band (but probably the minus gall-bladder issue still)...I hope it eases up a bit for you eventually.

Ugh, sounds awful! Ah well...you know what they say about being one stomach flu away from goal weight. :-)

Oh no! It looks like you may end up having to say no to the ice cream from here on out! That would NOT be a good thing!

Oh hon...Could our ever wonderful Dr. D actually be worng? LOL Sorry to hear you are going through these issues, but at least you know how YOUR body handles things and hopefully you can avoid future incidents! Hugs to you!

Sorry to hear all that you're going through when all you're trying to do is just enjoy a little frozen yogurt! That totally sucks. I'm sure its kinda scary too. I hope it somehow goes away over time for you....

Ug nothing worse than being away from home.

I guess it's like learning a new "system" all over again. Bummer you can't have ice cream!!

Oh you poor thing! I hope you are feeling better. I never would have thought dumping syndrome would have anything to do with VSG. Thanks for sharing.

Oh yikes! If you want to be a glass is half full kinda gal, this is a really good reason to avoid unnecessary sugar in your diet:)
