I'm off to NY tomorrow!

I am so excited that I will be spending the next five days with my girls wedding dress shopping and shopping and maybe more shopping. Notice how I didn't say eating? I have to be so diligent when I go back to NY. Its so easy to justify things like: I have to have a NY bagel! You can't get them in Florida, and how about pizza, oh yea, you can't find good pizza in Fl either! The sad thing is that right now, although I am only on mushies, I could probably eat all of the above!

I feel so out of sorts with how I am feeling. While I feel like I can eat anything, I am definitely getting filled up on much, much less than pre-band. I was picking a lot yesterday while I was making dishes for a bbq we had last night, not good. When dinner came, I mushed up a hamburger really fine and ate about 1/4 of it, if that much. Don't worry, a very small piece of cheesecake went right down! WTH is wrong with me?

Today I was much more in control of my eating so at least that went ok for me. I am still having a soreness/swelling issue by my port area...is that normal? Its not really painful, just sore. I think it feels like its sticking out more but maybe its because the rest of my stomach swelling has gone down and just not the port site. Is that possible?

Anyway, please wish me luck with keeping my eating in check while back in NY. I am really focusing on spending quality time with my daughters and not focusing on the food! I'll try to check in on the blogs while I'm gone but not sure if I will be commenting as its difficult on my Blackberry! I will be sure to catch up when I get back next week!

Ciao!

Have fun in NYC and I say don't worry about the food. As in don't worry about eating it OR not eating it. How often do you go to NYC? This isn't about deprivation it's about wise choices. Eat the bagel - but keep it at one and have the insides scooped out. Eat the pizza but eat a half of a slice. Just some thoughts. You will be fine and you handle it all well, no matter what. But most importantly, enjoy your daughters and all that wonderful shopping!!!!

I'm sure you'll be too busy shopping to think too much of food.. Have a great time..

I hope you have a great time in NY, I also agree with LD. Eat what you want but do it wisely..also this may be the last time you can really eat bagels and pizza easily. I would take advantage of that. Sorry if I am a bad influence.

I'm cheering for you from the other side of band land (unbanded).
I agree with the others, have fun in moderation. I think a glass of wine or two is a must! I'm a bad influence too. :) At our support group there is a saying, "Nothing tastes as good as thin feels." Enjoy your girls and have fun shopping.

Jacquie I had the same experiences with my port, I am 9 weeks post op.

I think because the port is imbedded in abdominal muscle and we use it moving, changing positions etc, it stays swollen far longer and is naturally slower to heal. I used to look down at mine and mutter "Yeah right won't be noticeable, my ass!", as the doc told me it wouldn't be. He is right and now it isn't obvious at all.

In the earlier days I found the contents in my lower stomach - below the band, when the mushies and even normal food had passed through to it, would cause my port to protrude out more too.

With your food intake in NYC listen to what you band tells you and "Chew, chew, chew!".

BTW, it isn't called "Bandster Hell" for nothing, I found it hard and at times challenging, but got through and you will too.

Enjoy your kids.

wahoo..have fun in New York. The food will be there this time and all the other times you go..you can wait and have a bite or two of those goodies next time.

My port was the last place to feel better. It swelled much longer than the rest. I think it is because they sew the thing into your muscle.

Shopping uses a ton of calories. Plus, even if you do indulge a bit, sounds like you can't eat as much as before so you'll be fine. Have fun!

Have fun shopping. I am dreaming of going to NYC. The soreness around the port area is normal. It took a month for me to be better. it is still a bit swollen for me but it is because there is a lot of scarring to happen under there. Have a great week end
