I still can't believe how everything has gone since my surgery. I have had minimal gas pain and have not taken any pain meds since Friday night. I did take liquid Tylenol yesterday but that was because of a headache associated with TOM...so glad that made an appearance after I was home from hospital!
My biggest complaint/problem is that I cannot sleep for nothing! I am a stomach sleeper and I am finding it impossible to sleep on my back for more than 3 or 4 hours each night. I was re-reading some of the blogs from when others had their surgery and was so excited to see that Catherine was sleeping on her belly at 8 days post-op! Yeah! Bring on day 8! Ahh, the little things in life like SLEEPING, get me excited!
On the drinking front, I am just not hungry and I am forcing myself to drink plenty of water but its nowhere near what I normally drink. I think yesterday I only got in 40 oz. In addition, I had 1/2 bottle of Isopure punch crap, oops, I mean drink. I hate it but its full of protein so I am being a good girl and drinking it. I have 10 bottles left and you can be sure I will not be buying it again. Way to sickening sweet! I also had about 1/4 cup cream of wheat with skim milk, 1/2 cup chicken broth and my version of eggnog. 1 egg, 1 c. skim milk, splenda and vanilla in magic bullet, wallah, eggnog.
My father and step-mom are coming today to visit and spend the night. I was stressing a little about what to feed them and decided that we should get take-out for them and I would eat one of the great soups I am making today from Catherines blog. So, I tell my Dad this and he says "what did you have in mind?", I said, "chinese?", he said, I can't eat Chinese, I'm doing Atkins! Say what? Hello, he's 80 and really doesn't need to lose weight! He told me he wants to lose 10 lbs. So, I tell him, "fine, we'll go to Houligans". He loves the place and they have plenty of options for him. I called them and asked what the soup of the day would be today and if it was possible for them to puree' it for me, they said yes. Crisis averted!
I'm actually looking forward to getting dressed, doing my hair and make-up, and going out. I've been showering each day and air drying the hair and wearing old sweats. Its time to get out! I had every intention of going for a nice walk yesterday but ended up spending a good part of the day working with a customer on the phone and computer. Its supposed to rain today so I missed my chance for this weekend.
Enjoy your Sunday...I'm going to try to get another hour or so of sleep! 4 more days until day eight!

Yeah bring on day 8 - means you're well and truly over the worst of it too lol. Hope your rest improves!!
Sleep is NOT a minor thing...LOL to your dad and atkins. Enjoy your night out
Sorry for your sleep troubles... I hear you. As you noted, I've had my issues, and I think they were compounded from stress from work.
I am finally sleeping better!
If you havae a therapist, maybe this is something to discuss-- if not, you could ask your family doctor or surgeon for a short course of ambien, like 10 pills, to see if you can knock your system back into normality again.
You're doing great, Jax!!!
Sounds like you're doing great and have a "success attitude". Can't wait to hear about all of your successes.
I guess you are NOT sleeping as I see you posted this before 4am! You poor thing. I hope the sleeping gets better soon.
I started to feel more normal too when I was able to go out to a restaurant. So glad they will puree your soup. It is a real treat. You might try mixing your isopure drink, half with water so it isn't too sweet. Or add some other juice to it. I also had a mix which was way too sweet so added some water, lemon and orange juice to cut it (would have loved some gin in it!).
One of the best things for me after surgery was being able to sleep for 8-10 hours a night because my acid reflux had gone away. So sorry you are still having problems. Maybe try taking some tylenol before sleep as you might be waking up because of pain. It'll all get better once you can sleep in your normal position again (I'm a side sleeper).
Have fun out with your family. As you can see, it doesn't matter how old we are, we still need to keep our weight in balance to stay healthy. Kudos to your dad. Hope he sees that you are doing a great job too.
So glad you're doing great. I feel really good too and have had no pain meds since the first day and no tylenol since second day. I'm sorry about the sleep issue, I'm a back sleeper so I have it made, been sleeping like a baby. Now, the fun begins, so glad we can share this experience together.
Hugs!
Glad to hear that things are going well....I am a stomach sleeper to and I found sleeping hard...I sort of slept on my right hand side propped up with pillows and sort of bent my leg over the pillows...it sort of worked and I slept a little easier than on my back...
My hubby and I went on a date last night and I have to tell you it went a long way to making me feel normal again. My hair was done and I was wearing makeup and I felt like myself. Have a great time tonight!
You sound great for being so newly banded! I hated sleeping on my back too....Seems like day 8-10 is the magic time when you will feel much better.
About the pics - I usually use Picasa to make a side by side shot. Do you have that program on your computer? It is a Google related thing I think. Just get your pictures and click on collage.
Or, you can use any other photo program - like Kodak or whatever. Save it and upload to blogger. I find this method the easiest, rather than relying on Blogger itself to do the side by side.
Thanks for your comments, you are so sweet! I am really enjoying your blog too!
Sounds like you are doing just great. I am so impressed that you thought to call ahead to the restaurant! You go girl. Sounds like success to me. Hang in there. You will feel more like yourself once you can sleep normally.
I too had minimal pain after sugery. (I like to attribute it to walking a TON in the hospital but we may just be lucky.)
Way to pull a Catherine and call ahead to puree!
And good for your dad for doing that for himself.
I cringed when I read about the isopure ready to drink punch! EWWW! I tried a few of them and thought they were all just plain nasty. I can tolerate the isopure powder but definitely not the ready to drink liquids. Oh so gross.
Sure hope you find sleep soon.
You are doing really good. Don't worry about sleeping on your front you will be able to do it again before you know it, I think it took about 3 weeks for me. I could not sleep well because of sleeping on my back. I left a pillow along my left side to give a bit of support near the port area. I found it helped a lot to be confortable on my front.
I hope everything keeps going this way for you.
You are doing so well. Enjoy Houligans! Way to plan ahead!
I am so happy that you are doing so well. Hope you have a great night out.
