Nothing much planned for today except running a few errands with Steve. It actually feels good to just relax and have nowhere to go.
Our girls got home safe last night a little after midnight after driving for 17 hours from our home in FL to Long Island. The house is so quiet with them gone. Jordan actually has started to talk to us about moving here with us and that makes me VERY HAPPY but I am afraid to get to excited just yet! Fingers crossed. I will see Mallory, Kevin and my niece for the long 4th of July weekend as they will be coming with Elayna (my sisters daughter). Steve, Brutus and I will be driving up to LI at the end of July for a week which will be great.
I've attached a pic from our day at Magic Kingdom along with one of Steve showing off his new tattoo in Vegas. I teased him that it makes him look so tough to which he said "I don't have to LOOK tough, I am a cop and I have a gun!"
I have a question for you all....how much do you eat at every meal? I am a little confused. I have heard some people say that they only eat 4 oz. at every meal. I am going to my doctor tomorrow and will ask him but I'm curious. My doctor in Mexico who did my surgery had me speak with a nutritionist who told me 1 cup in total volume at every meal is the norm. So, what are you doing?
SIDE BAR...I am sitting in my little room off my bedroom smelling freshly baked Croissants baking in the oven! Me and my great ideas to buy my husband these frozen Croissants from William Sonoma for his birthday. He loves them so much though so it was a good choice as he is so hard to buy for! He even bakes them himself so I can make myself scarce when they are baking.
Have a great Sunday everyone!

Great photos! :)
Good luck on the challenge, you'll do great. I'm going to be rooting from the side this time. My mind rebels against challenges so I'm not participating in this one.
I'm supposed to eat 1/2 3 times a day, plus 3 glasses of skim milk. Sometimes I eat more but rarely.
The tattoo looks great!
My doctor told me I should be eating 1/3 of what I used to eat before the band. I don't measure anything because that is the mind set I am always in. It seems like sometimes I eat around a cup, sometimes more, but I just follow what my body needs really, and since I am probably at my sweet spot now, it doesn't take much.
First, thank you so much for mentioning the challenge! I would have completely forgotten to send my picture into Kristen!
In terms of food, my nutritionist says 1200 calories. I measured and counted calories for a while and now feel like I have a pretty good handle on what the right portion is. I definitely eat more than 4 ounces or 1/2 cup. I typically eat about 1/3 of my meal when I'm out at a restaurant. And when I make myself food (e.g., turkey chili) I serve myself a cup, but more likely eat about 3/4 of a cup.
Hope that helps!
Um yah - you don't wanna know how much I eat!!! Love that you are in this challenge! You can do it.
i can tell you what Dr. Domkowski will tell you, because I asked him the same question on the last visit I had. He told me that 4 to 6ounces is the ideal, but the idea is to eat until you feel satisfied, not so full you want to barf (ok, so that was not his exact phrasing). Good luck tomorrow...I'll be seeing him on Wed!
Good luck on the challenge!
If I eat right, protein first, veggie next, starches last, I usually eat a cup or less.
But it does depend on what it is. I ate an entire bag of microwave popcorn last night. Not the individual size. I felt like crap and it was kinda crappy to learn that I could eat all that.
My nurse says between 1/2 - 1 cup.
She warned us that if we start eating more than that and get up to 2 or 3 cups we run the risk of making our pouches bigger by it forcing more of the stomach to pull up through the band which also increases the risk of causing a leak since it's stitched in.
Right now a "big" meal for me is a hamburger steak with 1/3 cup of coleslaw.
I don't know if any of my rambling will help or not, but I hope it will.
My doc says 1/2 to a cup at each sitting. 1.5 cups if you do liquids like soup (which he only likes after fills). He said routinely eating more would stretch the pouch.
However, the other surgeon I looked at said 1/2 cup max. He prided himeself on creating the smallest pouches possible and said that if we stretched our pouches there was nothing he could do (according to him your insurance wouldn't cover fixing it).
In the end I think it depends on the surgeon. Some do things a little different in surgery and it affects the after care. My doc is more about having a normal life even if it means not getting all the way to a 25 BMI. The other doc was all about getting his numbers looking good. He even said that he wouldn't give you the band if you didn't meet his strict criteria b/c he wasn't gone to take the risk of you failing and having his success rates fall. I still can't believe he said that, but at the time I focused on the fact that his success rate woudl be good for me.
You know, I haven't been measuring. But I probably should start keeping the whole meal to less than one cup...
Happy Challenge! Really happy to kick this one off.
I didn't measure and i gradually was able to eat less and less as my fills were added. I think this is because the food would pass through my stoma as I ate and as my fills increased the drop through thing stopped and i could only eat about 1/2. I do not measure things exactly but at home I eat most of my meals out of a (normal sized) coffee cup filled halfway.
I know hour pain about he croissants. My husband took up bread baking last year :) Every week I have to smell it cooking throughout the house. Gradually I have become OK with it. I can't really eat bread so just a bite here and there is fine and therefore smelling it is fine.
Happy Sunday!
Thanks everyone for all the info!
OMG I want to cry. I havent been measuring just eating off a side plate but I bet it is more than one cup. Sometimes I can eat half the plate full other times all of it. It depends on what I am eating. It took two sittings to eat my turkey and veg today but other days I can eat a lot more. I think I need a fill!
I hear from most that it's supposed to be 1/2 C. at each of 3 meals. But as I said in one of my recent blogs...that 4 oz. measuring cup is SO darn depressing...at least with the level of NO restriction I'm at currently, that I think I'm going to settle for 3/4 C. to 1 C. Sorry Doc.
Yep - I eat more than a cup. But I really think it depends on what the food is. Some foods fill me up more quickly than others.
BTW - love the photo's and your husband's comment about being a cop made me laugh :-)
My dr. says 3/4 - 1 cup per meal. Depends a lot on what I'm eating (which is all liquids right now) 1 cup of soup and I'm stuffed!
Great pix of your family! Your husband does look "tough", like a sweet teddy bear. I can smell your croissants thru the internet! William Sonoma does not have much that is not good!
I'm kind of late on this one, but I eat a cup a meal on average.
Those WS croissants are pure evil - you are a strong woman (but we knew that already).
Yep he does look tough and even tougher if he is a cop with a gun...whoo hoo. I eat about 1/2 cup at each meal...sometimes more but that would be about the average. Let us know what the doc sayd
