I am getting so discouraged!

I am at a loss but its not a weight loss! I am doing everything right...eating great, exercising and the scale is not going down. In fact, it went up 2 lbs two days ago and its still up!

I want so bad to be at 175 for Chicago, that was only a 5 lb loss I was looking for but now its 7 lbs and I honestly don't know what else I can do at this point. My trainer said I am not eating enough! I am eating between 1000 and 1200 calories a day and I am exercising 5 days a week at least 1 hour a day. Less calories, more exercise should = weight loss!

The worst part is I am doing this entirely WITHOUT ANY HELP FROM MY BAND! Seriously, my fill level sucks. Unless the doctor has a cancellation, my appt. is set for 9/29. Honestly, what is going on here? I have always been a slow loser and that sure hasn't changed. The thing is, I have been so militant about the exercise and this has not been the case in the past. I really thought that I would see some downward movement on the scales with all my exercise but nothing. I have not lost anything in 3 weeks and now have gained 2.

Does anyone have any suggestions or advice for me?

My suggestion is to keep doing what you're doing. I think you might be in a plateau...and I honestly believe that when we're plateauing, our body is just figuring out how to re-distribute the leftovers...and then we start losing again. I might be wrong, but it's what I think. And I'm always right about everything!!

Ugh, Jacquie, that sucks. I'm sorry. I think you should try upping your calories to 1500 for a day or two and see how that affects things. Your trainer may be right. Sometimes you need a higher-calorie day to prod your body to drop weight.

The two pounds has to be water weight. Did it get more humid? I lost two pounds overnight when the humidity dropped here.

Hang in there and keep up the great job with exercise - you're building muscle, which does weigh more than fat. Keep track of your measurements. Drink a lot.

You've heard it all before, but you will see the scale moving in the right direction soon. Have faith, and keep harassing your doctor's office for a sooner appointment!

Hon, check your voice mail. I will give up my appointment to you, since I don't need a fill. It is on the 13th at 3:45, I believe. Just let me know and I will call Dr. D's office on Tuesday to see if they can put you in my place. Love you!!

Agree with Kristin. Up your calories and your water intake. You're exercising alot so you need more calories to sustain. Try it for a week, make sure you're following the bandster rules (protein first) and you should lose. Regardless of whether you're 175 or 185 Jacquie, I cannot wait to squeeze you in Chicago!!! xoxo

I agree with all of the above, that and just hang in there. It will get better, I'm sure of that.

Try changing your calories each day, for example:

Day 1 - 1200
Day 2 - 1500
Day 3 - 1100
Day 4 - 1600

"Tricking" your body each day helps you get out of a plateau sometimes. I actually stopped counting my calories and just using my band with healthy foods and that has helped me get out of my plateau. I was keeping my calories too low, and with the exercise, I needed more calories. Remember, if you don't eat enough calories then you are losing lean muscle mass instead of just fat, so keeping calories up is important.
