No, its not my engagement ring or my diamond wedding band. My favorite piece of bling is the thin white gold band I wear closest to my heart!
Let me explain: Steve and I already had our wedding planned for September. We were having a tradional but very small, wedding with our family and closest friends. One day in April, he comes home and asks me to marry him. I said, "uh, yea, we've been through this already, remember? September 20th? You, me, the girls, getting married!" He than says, "no, I mean now. I want to marry you now." He went on to explain that he was worried that if something happened to him between then (April) and September, my girls and I wouldn't be on his medical insurance and he didn't want to take that chance! Of course, my first thought was "is there something you are not telling me? Did you just find out you have cancer, God forbid?" He told me "no, he just didnt' want to take the chance that if something were to happen to him, we would not have coverage."
So, we made arrangements to get married on April 14th. Just a simple ceremony, just to make us legal. We would still have the "Celebration of our Marriage" in Sept. as planned. Great. Two days before the "wedding", we were in Walmart and I asked him what we would do about wedding rings as the ones we ordered would not be in for our wedding in two days. He said we didn't need rings for this wedding, we'd exchange rings in Sept. I explained that I wouldn't feel married without a band, any band would do. We walked over to the jewelery counter and bought my $28.88 14K White Gold band! He than asked if he could cancel the diamond band that was previously ordered and I told him absolutely not! He didn't give me that one until Sept.
Everytime I look at that Walmart ring I am reminded how lucky we both are to have found each other. I not only found a great guy to love and take care of me but my children found their Bonus-Dad who loves them unconditionally.

I love a good romantic story. You sure do appreciate it more when you find it when you are older since you know how rare it is!
